Another three years down the road, Knox, Yepma and the rest of the Tem-Cats rekindled the same magic Saturday — again on their home field — in their first foray back into the playoffs since then.
Down a game in their Class 6A best-of-three, home-and-home bi-district series against District 11-6A champion Duncanville, Knox and Yepma drove in the first two runs for Temple in a three-run first inning that provided the fuel for it to get past the Panthers 4-0 in Game 2.
Temple then worked its extra-inning, comeback magic in the decisive game, tying things with one run in the sixth before Nani Rubio’s sharp single to left plated Madyson Combs with the go-ahead run in the ninth and Rubio scored an insurance run on Ava Machuca’s infield single to push the Tem-Cats to a series-clinching 5-3 victory, much to the delight of a tightly packed home...
